Fire Drill 084: Inside the Ropes at the Women’s Open
With Alan Shipnuck and Matt Ginella
For this Fire Drill preview of the U.S. Women’s Open, Alan Shipnuck and Matt Ginella are joined by their longtime friend Kevin Price, a Pebble Beach caddie who this week is on the bag of qualifier Mackenzie Hahn.
In 1994, Alan wrote his first cover story for Sports Illustrated as a 21 year-old intern, and in the ensuing quarter-century he typed two dozen more. He is the author of eight books, including best-sellers Bud, Sweat & Tees; The Swinger (with Michael Bamberger); and Phil. Shipnuck has won 13 first-place awards in the annual Golf Writers Association of America writing contest, breaking the record of Dan Jenkins, a member of the World Golf Hall of Fame. Alan lives in Carmel, Cal.
Less Ginella…More Bamberger (and especially Ogilvy)!
I’m stunned we did not receive daily coverage from Pebble considering it was a home game from Alan. I’m getting a little worried.
I made a comment yesterday about being disappointed that instead of adding insights to the state of the women’s game, the podcast was more about a buddy of the journalists who was caddying at the event, but the comment must have gotten lost. So, I’m sending again, just to make sure. Women golfers deserve a higher profile on all golf sites, and this one is no exception.
Umm…what happened to “writing” about golf? Podcasts are the rage, I get it, but they’re for lazy people who don’t want to take the time to read and internalize the story.
